You’d probably recognise this watch from the famous 007 Bond Movies where the legendary Pierce Brosnan sports it in his 4 terms as bond. This is also the same masterpiece that made cameo appearances with Daniel Craig during the modern remake of the series.

The Omega Seamaster is a Self-Winding Automatic watch, in which the mainspring is automatically wound as a result of the regular motion of the hand, making manual winding and the need for a battery redundant. The Seamaster has a stainless-steel case and strap and is loaded with functional features. It is shock resistant, water resistant, scratch resistant and has a digital calendar. Omega is known to have been the first timepiece on the moon and the Seamaster lives up to all functioning expectations. It’s the choice of adventurers all over the world.

Omega Mens Seamaster Watch Specifications

Co-Axil Escapement:

Omega Seamaster Co-axil

The Co-Axil mechanical movement was introduced in Omega watches in 1999. It truly is a work of art that reduces friction in the movement, resulting in long-term chronometric performance.

Sapphire Crystal:

The Omega Seamaster has a Sapphire Crystal glass which is probably the most sort after watch glass.  Sapphire Crystal rates around 9 on the Moh Scale (a measure for the hardness of material), second only to diamond which rates a 10. It is the least likely to be scratched, allowing for more rugged usage.

The Omega Seamaster is Chronometer certified which means that it has been put through a rigorous 15-day testing procedure to verify the watch’s precision in various temperatures and positions, thus meeting the accuracy standards set by COSC (Contrôle Officiel Suisse des Chronomètres), the official Swiss Chronometer Testing Institute.

Anti-reflective Treatment on Both Sides

This watch comes with Ant-reflective treatment which is designed to reduce light reflection by optical interference. The major benefit of Anti-reflective coating on a watch crystal is increase in light transmission. With more ambient light striking the dial, more colour and texture is visible.

Screw-down Crown

Omega Seamaster Crown

The Omega Seamaster is a diver’s classic.  It boasts a screw-down crown which ensures water-resistance by sealing the crown to the case of the watch. A firm seal is created when the case locks with the crown’s internal threads and gaskets, fastening the crown securely into place. Needless to say, this watch is particularly useful for deep sea diving.

Helium Escape Valve

Unless you’re a professional diver, you are not going to ever use the Screw-down Helium Escape Valve of the Omega Seamaster which is located at the 10 o’clock position. Essentially, this feature assists professional divers diving to depths of greater than 250 feet for extended periods of time. At such depths, the gasses in water become toxic. When divers go to these depths, they travel down in something know as a diving bell, which is highly saturated with helium and hydrogen to counteract the toxic air found at these depths. This is where the helium escape valve comes handy. Helium atoms being as tiny as they are, easily slip inside a watch case. This becomes a problem when the diving bell makes its way up to the surface. As the bell depressurises, so does the watch. The build-up of helium atoms inside of the watch case could damage the watch and the resulting pressure could pop the crystal off of the case. However, in the case of the Seamaster the helium escape valve, can be opened during decompression to expel helium safely out of the watch. But like I said, you will never use this feature unless you’re a professional diver.

Water Resistant up to 300 Meters/1000 Feet

Omega Seamaster Water Resistance

The Omega Seamaster is water resistant up to 300 Meters/1000 Feet.  An important thing to keep in mind is that the depth of water resistance is measured when the watch is brand new. So, over time, with the wear and tear of the Case Back, Crown, and Gaskets, the level of water resistance may go down.  It is a good idea to check the level of water resistance every year. Then again, as I said earlier, unless you’re a professional diver, this feature should not matter too much.

So, who is this watch best suited for?

Men who love the outdoors and adventure, as well as people who are looking for a watch that offers style as well as functionality, choose the Seamaster. Omega’s exclusive Co-Axial escapement makes it a perfectly accurate watch. Its helium escape valve allows for deep sea diving and hence becomes a diver’s essential. The Seamaster does not shy away from keeping up to its reputation of being a luxury timekeeper which provides years of service, thanks to its ageless design.

Is the Omega Men’s Seamaster Watch Worth It?

Omega out does itself in watch development and design. The Seamaster is a quality timepiece that continues the tradition of perfection in personal timepieces. It is a great travel companion especially on international trips. It serves up value as well as a luxury and it gets better with age.
